Well, I’ve decided to try a little experiment. Aiden, Alyson, and I are going to write mini-biographies about each of these people and publish them on a new blog, aptly titled…
So keep your eyes peeled. Aiden’s already working on the first post. He’s pretty excited! This should be fun.
Just don’t tell them that they’ll be learning anything this Summer. 
Having a four-day work week definitely has its advantages. My weekly commute time is shorter and my gas cost is significantly less. I get a three-day weekend every week. Except this weekend, of course (three cheers for four-day weekends!). Sitting in front of a computer for ten hours a day, however, is not exactly anyone’s idea of fun – even when you’re getting paid to be on the World Wide Interwebs. Sometimes you have to take a break and get away for a few minutes.
That happened to me today. I had to get out. A colleague of mine joined me on my little drive and we wound up at Chick-fil-a, which isn’t too far from the office (yet another reason my place of employment is pretty amazing. I mean…you already know my love for Chick-fil-a). As we walked in, my colleague turned to me and said “I’m buying.”
An unexpected free lunch coupled with some good conversation about work, life, and matters of faith turned was a great change of pace and a very generous surprise. It’s definitely something to be thankful for.

If you’ve been around the World Wide Interwebs at all over the past few months, I’m sure you’ve seen one of these videos. I have to admit that Call Me Maybe is a fun little ditty.
Well…
it’s fun the first 523 times you hear it.
But that’s not the point. It’s also not the point that this song is an earworm and if you hear it once, it’ll be stuck in your head the rest of the day.
The point is that my two girls love this song. They sing it at the top of their lungs every chance they get. One daughter, however, has come up with her own set of lyrics.
For those who are curious, I’m pretty sure Bella is licking strawberry juice off Christy’s arm. Did I mention we picked 20+ pounds of strawberries yesterday? The freezer is stocked for this Summer!
After dinner a few nights ago, Aiden looked at me with a little bit of confusion in his face. I think he was unsure whether he should say what he was thinking. He even hesitated for a moment when he said, “Dad, in a way, I’m kind of thankful you got fired.” And then he started listing some of the reasons. Remarkably, many of them weren’t very dissimilar from the ones I shared a few weeks ago.
Inspired by that conversation and the weekly posts from a co-worker, I have decided that I need to continue to remind myself that I have much to be thankful for. So I’ve decided to resurrect a series I did back in 2010. Be on the lookout for Thankful Thursday beginning next week.
Hopefully this will be a reminder for all of us to slow down and take the time to give thanks. And maybe it will give you the opportunity to share what you’re thankful for, too. And we can be thankful together.
So let’s get the ball rolling. What are you thankful for?
Back in January, I gave Hold Me, by Jamie Grace, the Ralphie for Favorite Song of 2011. My reasoning? The way our youngest sings it will melt your heart. I couldn’t find a video at the time. We have one now. Well…OK…she’s only singing part of the song. But it’s my favorite part of the song…

The Charlatan’s Boy is a first person account of an orphan with a heart gold named Grady and his journey through the land of Cornewald. Cornewald is a fictional land that sounds like it exists off the coast of Georgia or South Carolina that is inhabited by a variety of characters, like civilizer townsfolk, cowboy-like cattle drovers, pirates, and traveling hucksters. These salesmen never met a scam they didn’t like and they try to “earn” coin from gullible townsfolk by selling anything from a praying machine to anti-aging potion to protection from feechie folk.

You know, it helps to read the directions before signing up for something. I registered my blog here because it sounded like a really cool idea for connecting with other dads. And…well…let’s be honest. The prospect of winning $100 was pretty attractive, too. Then I saw that I have to write an intro about myself and put the link in that introduction page.

When the rug was pulled out from under our family a little more than 6 months ago, my biggest worry was how this was going to impact the kids. It didn’t rattle my faith in God. It didn’t really shake my trust in the Church. I’ve dealt with much greater crises of faith and I was confident we were going to land on our feet. Don’t get me wrong. There was a lot of hurt and we felt betrayed. But I knew (and continue to know) that God is bigger than all of that. He has moved mountains time and time again. And this? This has been a tiny molehill. He continues to write our story and it’s my prayer that He will shine brightly through every letter used to tell that story. Continue Reading
