A few weeks back, I got to take Aiden to a Pacers game. It was Cub Scout Night and Family Night – so the tickets were cheap and we got some pretty cool stuff, like free t-shirts and hot dogs and drinks. Uncle Kevin came along too for a guys’ night out. This was my [...]

Pacers Game
Friday, November 27th, 2009Flashback Friday
Monday, April 6th, 2009Because of limited access to the last week (Seriously? 10 bucks a day?), I was unable to post last week’s Flashback Friday. Because it’s a time-sensitive post and because I don’t want to end the streak of Flashback Friday posts, it’s time for Flashback Friday: Monday Edition.
Since they’re playing the Championship Game tonight, it’s only [...]
Big Man on Campus
Friday, September 26th, 2008When Indiana hired Tom Crean earlier this year, the message boards lit up with Marquette fans saying they were happy he was gone because he “can’t recruit a big man.”
Maybe he just couldn’t get a big man to come north to the state of Wisconsin. Because 6′11″ certainly sounds like a big man to me!
I’ve [...]
My Big Ten Tournament Experience
Sunday, March 16th, 2008December 17, 1988. If memory serves correctly, that was the last time I had been to an IU game in person. I’ve watched countless games on TV (no thanks to the Big Ten Network this year), but I’d only been to one actual game before.
My uncle managed to get some tickets to the [...]
Rookie of the Year
Thursday, March 23rd, 2006 Rookie of the Year Originally uploaded by mattdantodd.
The Tar Heels had a year-end awards banquet Tuesday night. On top of having pizza, breadsticks, and soft drinks, the kids got to play basketball and they were awarded their trophies.
Aiden was given Rookie of the Year honors.
Aiden the Basketball Player
Monday, February 27th, 2006I thought tonight would be the last basketball game with the Tar Heels.
I was wrong.
I was right when I said they’d lose to the Thunder, though. It was close. Too close. Overtime close. In the middle of the fourth quarter (I think), the coach’s son got hurt in what [...]
Aiden’s Tar Heels
Saturday, February 25th, 2006 Aiden & Tar Heels 2005 Originally uploaded by mattdantodd.
It is very likely that Aiden’s basketball season is over. The post-season tournament begins Monday evening. They play the Thunder in the first game (I was misinformed earlier when I said they played the Sixers). [...]
Basketball’s almost over (finally)
Saturday, February 18th, 2006Today is the last game of the regular season for Aiden and the Tar Heels. I don’t know when the tournament will be, but they play the Sixers – that means he’ll get limited playtime during that game, since the Sixers always play the Tar Heels tough (yes, I’m scouting a 5-7 year old [...]
Double Overtime
Saturday, January 21st, 2006I have decided that Pee Wee basketball leagues should not go into overtime. Parents get too rowdy, the coaches get too uptight, and the refs start calling games like it was suddenly really important. In this sudden surge of emotion, the kids get completely lost in it. These are 5-7 year olds, [...]
Aiden & Basketball
Saturday, December 3rd, 2005Aiden’s Tar Heels lost their first game today. There was a preseason tournament that lasted a week, and today was the championship game. Let me tell you – it was a barn burner. The Thunder beat the Tar Heels 10-7.
After the game, Aly asked if Aiden’s team lost. After we told [...]
